IDEA trained a team in Japan, then built a local design group in Vietnam. They also helped the client shift from 2D to 3D design to improve accuracy and reduce errors.

The client is a major Japanese contractor specializing in powder transport plant systems, with over 100 years of history. Most of their designers are elderly, with an average age of 70, and there is no successor to continue the work. To ensure sustainable development in the future, the client recognized the need to seek alternative solutions—particularly by building new design teams—and reduce reliance on current subcontractors, especially design teams based in China.
IDEA Technology was selected as a strategic partner to support the transition and help build a new design team. The client requested IDEA to dispatch a group of personnel to Japan for one year of training. After completing the training, this team would return to Vietnam to establish a local workforce capable of gradually replacing the client’s existing subcontractors. This initiative also served as a pilot program to shift dependency from Chinese design contractors to Vietnamese teams.
One of the client’s major challenges was that most of their current designs were created in 2D, which made layout verification and error management difficult. IDEA assisted the client in transitioning from 2D to 3D design, enabling easier validation and inspection of overall layouts. This significantly shortened processing time and reduced design errors, especially in equipment arrangement and installation.
IDEA’s personnel underwent direct training in Japan for one year to gain a deep understanding of the client’s technical requirements and workflows. Upon returning to Vietnam, the team successfully built a professional design group capable of gradually replacing the client’s existing subcontractors.
In parallel with personnel development, IDEA also converted all design work from 2D to 3D. This allowed the client to more easily verify technical elements in the overall design and quickly detect errors before fabrication and assembly.
After more than a year of collaboration, the client expressed high satisfaction with the quality of IDEA’s work. The transition from 2D to 3D design helped minimize errors in the production process and shortened the time required for layout verification and approval. At the same time, the newly established design team in Vietnam was ready to take over design tasks, reducing the client’s reliance on previous subcontractors.
The client has also planned for a long-term and comprehensive partnership with IDEA—not only in design but also in manufacturing and fabrication in Vietnam. This reflects a broader trend of shifting parts of the production process from China to Vietnam to optimize costs and improve operational efficiency.
